Went out on the lake to do a water taxi today with a couple looking at an Anstruther property... an interesting ride. Unfortunately I had to leave the driving to the folks who ordered the taxi ride ... while I now have my boating licence - I still don't know how to drive a boat - - - it remains on the 'things to do' list. There was never a need, Mark drove the boat, he wanted me to learn but I had no interest and saw no need. Then we bought the marina. That dynamic changed it all. The optics didn't look very good so I did the test and I figured I'd learn how to drive the boat someday when I had time. That day hasn't come yet. So -- of all days -- Mark had left to do errands and staff stayed at home because of the (incorrect) weather forecast. This left just me when the prospective new folks arrived to look at property and needed a water taxi. Learning to drive the boat has just moved up to the top of the list. I handed over the keys and demoted myself to navigator and set off. When we posted a few days ago about the new listing in the south end, we added the part about great neighbours (that description hadn't been included in the listing). We added it because it's true and whoever gets that place is joining into a great bay. It's not just the cottage or the dock or the shore, it's the people on the lake that will be part of your great cottage memories and the people who land that cottage will hit the jackpot. So as navigator, I checked the map to be sure I was taking them to the right place and they asked about the lake, I thought about it. Just how does one describe how special this lake really is to an outsider? We didn't get it when Reinhard tried to tell us. This couple hadn't come to see the new listing, that one is road access, they were seeing a water access property. They had already been to Eels and Paudash and still had appointments at yet a few more lakes. They asked about the water depth and if there were any towns on the lake or if there was anywhere to go. They focussed on the water access element of it. This really isn't important, on this lake, its the people that makes Anstruther so special. This lake has character and warmth. They don't know how great their neighbours could be. The cottages on Eels and Paudash may have road access and I'm sure they are great lakes but I wonder if they can possibly have the same warmth and charm as Anstruther Lake. So despite the wind taking down the real estate sign, we found the property and made it back to the marina. So now learn how to drive the boat and -- if you see me in training - be kind.
