A lesson we learned several years ago when we first moved up here...we had a power failure and waited very patiently and then impatiently. We called hydro and they said they were not aware we had lost hydro but would get right on it. They told us to never assume that hydro knows about an outage and never assume that someone else has called it in because it may not affect anyone but us.
For the third time in the past 2 weeks, we had a hydro failure yesterday afternoon... the difference this time was that it was totally expected given the wind we had. There was a storm brewing all day and a tree went down on a power line at about 2pm, we called Hydro and power was restored by 6pm. Good timing because the rain started about an hour later.
No worries - the ice cream survived.
The pic below was the view of the driveway from the side deck. The vehicle parked at the side of the driveway beside hydro in the pic was in the way. While parking may have been a challenge on the weekend and this spot seemed convenient, the driver probably didn't anticipate a power failure and being in hydro's way...
A neat app that a cottager told us about is called Storm Tracker. It shows a storm on a map and identifies how significant it is.
Another cottager emailed with concern that the food in their freezer may have been compromised. Here's a tip so you will know if your freezer has failed and then refrozen...place a small bowl or a baggie of square ice cubes in the freezer. On returning to the cottage - if your ice cubes are no longer square and are now one lump, you know it has thawed and refroze.
