The Royal Bank of Canada, known more commonly by it's modern moniker acronym of RBC, is going to close their branch Apsley next April.
Last Wednesday it was leaked that after a presence of some sixty years in our small town, North Kawartha’s only financial institution will be shut down. Though not open every day and 'bankers hours' at that, it was still a local convenience and one that many people relied on. As cottagers, you may have enjoyed the convenience of having the branch close by for summer banking, if they close, this will not be an option for next year. For residents, the loss of RBC will mean a drive of almost an hour to the next closest bank of any brand. For the seniors this will be a great hardship. Just what is Council doing about economic development in North Kawartha? This small town has already suffered the loss of two businesses this past summer alone. For Council, the loss of RBC should be a major concern, Apsley economic develop should be on their radar. Our own Councillor, Carolyn Amyotte is taking steps to address it, we received an email about this issue from her. Carolyn is alerting the public in an effort to ensure that RBC is aware that this closure will be a loss to the community and that it should not happen. Carolyn's email said the following; The news has sparked a huge outcry in our community and the creation of the Stop Apsley RBC Closure! Group on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/122603131792616/?ref=group_header . Attached is the first letter written about this by Amanda Gray and Councillor Amyotte's latest post on social media. Please check it out for more information and sign the petition if you will feel the loss of the closure.
