For those following the lake condition, it still isn't frozen. We are at -5 and it is starting to freeze in quiet areas such as the little 'bay' between boathouse b and c where the utility dock is located.
Diamonds grow on trees on Anstruther? No, but it looked like it when driving down Anstruther Lake Road on Monday, the rain froze on the trees and when the sun hit the branches they twinkled. Today is gloomy and overcast but very still. The winds have kept hydro very busy up here visiting Anstruther three times in the past week,

Hydro has arrived with a boat - on Dec 27 - to restore power to the north end. We did have strong winds yesterday.
Snowmobile season? Will there be one? Any memories that recall the date it took the longest for the lake to freeze? January? A year ago yesterday, we also had water. That's when the lake had been frozen and then thawed for the day. Today - still very much water. This beautiful photo was taken on Dec 12, 2015, 12 days ago.
We hit 14 degrees here today, the lake was still water as it was 12 days ago but very high winds. Power was restored moments ago after a 6 hr outage. Polished off some ice cream to make sure it wouldn't melt. After the power flickered for about 5 min, which was odd, we went out onto the deck and saw a fire on Anstruther Rd, a tree had fallen on a power line and caught fire. Heard a kaboom so called 911 but it went out on its own before they arrived. For those of you wanting to see the lake on the webcam, we always have hiccups after power failures so will try to have it restored by boxing day. One boat remains in the water (ours), but it comes out on Monday. Merry Christmas Anstruther! Despite this morning's freezing rain, we have very favorable conditions to close off the season. All of the dock care has now been done and most boats are winterized and put away for the season --- except for the 'die hards'.
Last year the lake froze just before christmas but it is not likely to happen that early this year. A cottager reported the lake temp as of yesterday (nov 30) was 7.2 degrees. No more signs of the bear and no success stories from hunters on the deer hunt. there are still plenty of not very smart turkeys still darting out onto Anstruther Road. |
