For the purpose of the archives, we will note that the first snowfall was about an inch on Friday night (nov 20), it stayed on the ground overnight and though a bit melted yesterday we got a bit more through the day. Today, November 23, it's still there. Fall 2015 was a great season but it looks like it's over. Next year, when we are trying to remember the timing, you can look back to this post. It has been getting increasingly colder, the air is crisp and a morning walk in the woods, because all the leaves are staying wet and not drying - they are now all frozen together.
We've been told that the lake temp is 8 degrees.
Dock Care is happening now, We started last week, each day we went out to do the docks, the wind interrupted our progress and cut our day on the lake shorter than planned. Some cottagers have called/emailed wondering why their dock had not yet been moved. We try to balance it between weather and stretching out the season as long as possible. We do them in groups, it isn't efficient to go out to do the docks one by one and there are cottagers who are still crossing the lake so we want to leave docks as late as possible before there are weather hazzards to accommodate them.
Anyone who still has a boat in a slip --- please contact the marina. Boathouses will soon be disconnected from shore to prepare for winter.
Anstruther Marina has new styles of ladies jackets now available appropriate for spring and fall (Great for christmas gifts). Purple jacket has a soft warm lining that is synthetic but feels as soft as the fur on a bunny, The green is more of a windbreaker/rain jacket with velcro sleeves and the colour is lime green like our logo, the photo doesn't show the colour well. The lime jacket is available in gray, black, red or blue as well as the green shown and the purple jacket is also available in black or grey. Both styles have hoods.
Yesterday, November 5, 2015, was spectacular everywhere but better here (because of the lake!).
Blue skies, not a cloud to be seen, tshirts and regrets that we'd put away the shorts. We hit 25 degrees and there was actually humidity in the air too --- in November! The day before was great too. That was ladybug day. Thousands of them appeared out of nowhere. The front of the building was covered, someone came inside and brought a dozen or so inside with her.
This should have made for a lovely day to do the chore of getting the barge out of the lake, perfect conditions, the lake was flat and there was not even a breeze. Though a lovely day, apparently even the Barge doesn't want to leave Anstuther, it was time to come out but it resisted and today our muscles are reminding us of the chore. The water levels are very low and challenged us with positioning the barge's trailer on the best angle, every time it was winched up, the back end twisted outward but we finally got it out.
