We went from the high twenties yesterday to 12 degrees this morning with overcast skies and rain. This has been a busy year for the paddlers in the Kawartha Highlands with our rentals being sold out almost every weekend. It's now September and they continue to come. Fall is the nicest season up here. No bugs. The paddlers that set out yesterday were optimistic when it didn't rain -- it was supposed to yesterday -- maybe the day will improve for them.
The restaurant is now closed for the season and the weather will dictate the re-open date -- when the lakes freeze over and the trails are open.
What a difference a week makes. It has been a ghost town here since Monday. School is back and many are now back to work through the week. The summer finished well -- this was a hot labour day weekend and the weather could not have been better. The parking lot had about as many cars as we have for the Simcoe day weekend.
For those who missed it, Karaoke was a huge success on Friday night. Everyone had a lot of fun, there were no bugs and the outdoor air was a very comfortable temperature. We had a couple from Jacks who just happened to come to the restaurant for the first time. As karaoke was being set up, they had finished their meal but decided to stay for a drink to see what was happening. They commented that they don't have anything like this on Jacks. Many thanks to Bob (and Jim) for bringing the equipment and doing setup/tear down. And for the great tunes.
