New propane exchange company at Anstruther...we no longer have Tank Traders, we now have PNE Propane. Same pricing, $23.99 for an exchange and $54.99 if you aren't returning a tank. Great company --- they will take back ANY tank...whether from an exchange program or not from an exchange program. Could even be expired and they will take it as they are licensed to recertify the tanks. So if you have an empty tank that you purchased from a store, you can bring that one and we will give you a full one for $23.99.

The agenda was unclear, we arrived at 9;30 to be sure we wouldn't miss the dock issue. The agenda didn't indicate what time it would come up. We waited patiently and politely listening to applications for variances that were on other lakes. Relief...After sitting in Council Chambers for 2 hours with a full house, the Mayor asked for a show of hands indicating how many were there for the dock issue. All hands raised, he then proposed a separate date due to the length of time it would take to cover. The issue will now be discussed on Tuesday July 28, 2015 at 7pm. Location to be determined as there wouldn't likely be enough space at the Town office to accommodate all concerned. This issue affects not only contractors and dock builders but every waterfront owner in North Kawartha.
It is absurd that a recommendation with such ridiculous parameters is even being proposed much less considered by Council. If this recommendation were to be passed, who would want to buy a property in North Kawartha if a dock is limited to 10x10? Cottagers live on their dock space in the summer. Prospective purchasers would driven to other townships. Today, the Township of North Kawartha is considering a staff proposal to ban 'in water structures' that exceed 100 square feet. Anstruther Lake is not affected as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Park but all other lakes in North Kawartha that are outside the Park would be affected.
Yesterday's humidity left us sticky and uncomfortable. Today's different. Eleven degrees, long pants, a sweater and winds that remind me of walking on the ocean's shore. Did a double take when I walked down to inspect the ever fragile boathouse A. Yes, the winds are from the north and we are being beaten by huge whitecapped waves and "A's" ramp has crunched again. For a moment i thought I saw a clump of snow, I went closer and it was more like bubble bath. It was a foam whipped up from the waves and left on shore. A softer version sits in the basin where the utility dock sits. There wasn't much rain but the wind was really strong all night and still now. Not a good day to be crossing the lake. Have a look on the webcam.
If you have a canoe, trampoline, floatie or anything not nailed down and had been by the shore -- check the lake. Ever been to the Chocolate Rabbit in Lakefield? It's a small shop that sells hand made chocolate and is the first shop beside the Foodland on the other side of their parking lot. It's not just for Easter, they have boxed chocolate, shaped chocolate and bars made of milk, dark or a variation of both -- it is VERY good chocolate...but doesn't last long.
The restaurant at Anstruther Marina now has 1/2 price wings on friday nights. Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be really great so it would be a good night for dinner on the deck overlooking Anstruther Lake. Let us know if you are coming, the equipment is shut down at 7pm or until all guests in the restaurant are finished.
