Anstruther is a special lake as all of us know that are lucky enough to call it the lake that our cottage or home is on. Most cottages on Anstruther will sell to someone with a prior connection to Anstruther, either relatives or friends of cottagers already on the lake. There are very few 'outsiders'.
In 2015, there were very few cottages that turned over. It happens often that people will drop into the store and mention that they have not listed yet but intend to sell, they want us to know about it. We do appreciate hearing in advance, first so we know that 'strangers' may be passing through to view the property but it also happens often that we get calls from strangers asking questions about the lake and it helps us in sharing what we know, if we know it relates to someone interested in coming to the lake.
So it's June 2016 and so far this year several have recently listed and another couple still about to. The most recent has the coveted benefit of road access.
Anyone with friends or family who have been wanting a place of their own on the lake -- 2016 is your year of choice!
As many of you may have noticed, it is TURTLE SEASON so keep an eye out as you drive down turtle alley on Anstruther Lake Rd as they cross the road very slowly.
The Park Biologist Travis has been seconded to another Park for the summer and the Interim Biologist, Erica, has just dropped by to introduce herself and to leave a notice for an upcoming turtle event on Anstruther happening July 8th 2016 from 5-6pm at the Public Launch. See the notice on our bulletin board outside.
Very rough waters on Anstruther over the weekend and though it continues today we don't have the whitecaps that we had on Sunday. All of that wind and we still have hydro!
If you are a cottager on Anstruther, you are probably very familiar with the Anstruther Marina Cottager Association's (ALCA) annual Regatta. You probably also have a collection of Regatta Tshirts. These shirts are custom designed by an Anstruther Cottager each year and feature a different colour and theme.
In past years, the Tshirts were ordered and put on display for purchase in the store. This year, we will have samples on display and order forms to pre-order and pre-purchase the tshirts.
The shirts are date specific and it's ordering the sizes is just a guess every year. Some people are disappointed if their size sells out and either don't get to have a shirt that year or end up with a shirt selected from the limited sizes that are left (whether it fits or not), we are also left with shirts that weren't purchased.
This year, everybody will be happy because by preordering, you are guaranteed to get your preferred size.
The other new feature to the Regatta Shirt beginning this year is the option for an Athletic style shirt (wicks) for adult sizes.
Order forms are available in the store or by emailing us. Shirts must be pre-paid by closing time on Sunday July 3rd and shirts will be here for pickup on or after July 15th.

We visited Apsley's wonderful vet, Dr Kim Facey for an annual checkup.
While there, we saw some posters warning of ticks. Now that it's spring and people and pets are spending time in the woods it's a good time for a reminder about the risk of Ticks.
Ticks are part of the spider family and will wait in tall grass until you walk by so they can climb onto you as you walk past. Best to wear long pants and socks with pant legs tucked into the socks when in the woods. The hitch-hiking tick will find a spot on the skin of you or your pet to bury it's head, it will stay for many days, engorging, slowly filling its body with blood. You may not even be aware of it's presence. There is a special tool that helps remove ticks safely, check with your local vet or pharmacy. Care must be taken to remove the tick properly.
Ticks can carry Lyme Disease though rarely found in our area (Apsley and surrounding areas) now. That said, it is estimated that within 7 years, a large percentage of ticks in the area WILL carry Lyme disease.
Apparently there is nothing yet available for human use but there is for pets, check with your vet about one of two products, Bravecto or Revolution that will help protect pets from Ticks.
Cottage Country Connections is one of the many publications where you will find ads for Anstruther Marina docks.
Free copies of Cottage Country Connections can be picked up in the store at Anstruther Marina. If you haven't seen one recently, you may not recognize it. Though the logo is the same the entire publication has changed from a tabloid (made of newsprint and folded like a newspaper) to glossy colour magazine style. It looks fantastic and has great content by talented writers such as Emily Ireland.
Current issues now in the store and the next issue will be available at the end of next week. Pick one up, take it back to the cottage and you'll have something to read while you are relaxing on the dock.
Just passed a nice black paved path leading up the hill for Fire Route 61, nice and smooth, no more bumps and gullies made by 'rain rivers'. Fresh pavement. Nice job North Kawartha township!
We had significant rainfall on Sunday and Monday, we've check the slips and there was so much rainfall that quite a few boats had 5-6" of water and had to be pumped out.
We had more rain today. It was one of 'those' weird rain days...it would come down so hard, we'd be about ready to pack in all the outdoor work and then the sun would come out, then a few minutes later it would start again. Even though it interfered with our boat prep/launches, the rain was very much needed, maybe the patches of brown grass will start to go green again.
Copies of the new 2016 North Kawartha Community Directory are now available at the front counter. This community publication is free and it lists local businesses and is a great resource when you are looking for a service or a product locally.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
