We don't usually open the restaurant until the trails open but we were getting calls from cottagers on neighbouring lakes who could get here without the trails. We decided to open early for them thinking the trails had to be ready soon. Well each week we thought the next would be the one but it never happened. We expect trails just may not open this year. We have closed the restaurant so that we could focus on refinishing the flooring and new cabinets in the store.
The restaurant will reopen on the May 24 weekend. The rest of the marina service remain open weekdays from 9-4.

Renovations of new flooring in the store has begun, it will be the same as the restaurant. We are also building new wood cabinets to hold stock for sale, some of the MDF shelving on the wall was challenged with the weight of our oil selection. It's a mess right now but will be complete soon. Among other things, we came across an unintentional time capsule item in a wall space, a marina calendar, vintage 1974, with names of Bill and Shirley Shaver.
So pic 1 really doesn't look much different from the last few postings. pic 2 gives you an idea of how much snow accumulation we have had today from the view of the stairs. It has been snowing steadily all day but not really a lot of accumulation.
The only update from the BDSC website to report is that their annual bbq has been cancelled due to conditions. We have snow in case you are wondering. South of Young's Point it is skimpy as you drive further south towards toronto there was practically none to be seen.
Without a major snowfall or two (or five) we won't be seeing trails open for a while. We also have ice as you can see in the photo, so having ice, we are lucky. Katchawanooka (the lake that is to the west of the bridge that you cross at Youngs point, is completely open, maybe 5% ice remains at shore. All that said, we measured yesterday and have about 10" still (50' out from the gas dock), hard to believe with the very mild sunny springlike days we've had over the past week. Please do not rely on this measurement, the thickness will vary across the lake and it could be much thinner in other areas. Please be cautious as the conditions are very odd this year. As always, by announcing the thickness at the marina is not our endorsement of safety. Family Day weekend is in another week...a very different year this will be. |
