The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) offers a free weekend every year to try out the trails for free. Until this year, it has always been on the Family day weekend. For 2018, OFSC has designated this coming weekend of Feb 3 and 4 as the free weekend. Be aware that a trail pass is still necessary on the free weekend but will be free of cost, go to the OFSC website for instructions.
So that's the good news...you can ride the trails for free this weekend...the bad news is...the trails are still closed. We don't have sufficient snow on the trails yet and from the look of the OFSC map, very few of the trails are open and those that are will be a significant distance from here, beginning at Pembroke but most are well past. click here for OFSC website www.ofsc.on.ca/
While Anstruther Marina is open for business if you require fuel or if you want to make an appointment to purchase a boat, the restaurant remains closed until the trail is officially open.
Now available - Vibe Series by Legend Boats and available at Anstruther Marina!
Seen for the very first time at the Toronto International Boat Show, Legend Boat's long awaited fiberglass line is now here.
The D19 and D20 are deck boats with a revolutionary hull design that virtually eliminates rough ride and rocking motion.
Deck Boat or Bowrider? The deckboat is a middleground between a pontoon and a bowrider. The Deck Boat offers much more room than a bowrider and less 'bow-rise'. The Vibe offers style and versatility with sleek lime green graphics. The D19 has a $6,070 premium package included free, the D20 has a $8,765 premium package included free.
That's what we've got up here. Snow has been melting over the past few days and the snow that is left has hardened to an icy surface after yesterday's rain and the recent milder temp. Some areas have grass exposed so the sledding season will need a lot more snowfall.
Hard to believe but we are now in our seventh year at the Marina. After a few years, a cottager made a comment about giving up the leather jacket for something that was more durable and offered more warmth. It was time he said, leave the city clothes behind, that leather jacket is going to get ruined. Go to Marks Work Wearhouse and get a Carhartt work coat he said.
His advice was taken with thanks. That Carhartt has worked out well and is more industry appropriate than the leather bomber jacket.
The Mark's Work Wearhouse enjoys a solid business in Peterborough. Marks in Peterborough is so successful that it has moved across the street into bigger digs, the largest in Canada apparently.
So while one store has grown, another is gone. Sadly, Sears was the anchor store for the Mall and has now closed.
There was a longstanding rumor that Princess Auto was going to build beside Costco but apparently that possibility fell through.
Yes - that's an important detail. A cottager in the north end has reported 7" when tested in various places on the lake. Please note that this is not an indication of safety for crossing the ice as thickness can vary in different areas on the lake.
The trails remain closed and the restaurant will not open until the trails are officially open.
Not much else to say...well we could complain about how cold it is...it's so cold, our water froze yesterday.
One never really appreciates the modern conveniences until they are gone. Simple tap water really is a luxury when you've lost it for a while. Grateful to have it back now.
